Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

UniAbuja Keke lets people at the University of Abuja request a keke (tricycle) between campus stops. This page explains what the app keeps about you, who can see it, and how to get rid of it. We wrote it in plain language on purpose.

Who is responsible

The UniAbuja Keke project team runs this service. You can reach us through the campus transport office.

What we keep, and why

WhatWhyWho sees it
Your name, phone number and emailTo create your account, sign you in, and let a driver and rider call each other about a trip. You; the administrators. During a trip, the rider and driver see each other's name and phone number.
Your passwordTo sign you in. We never store the password itself, only a scrambled version that cannot be turned back into it.Nobody.
Matric or staff number (optional)Only if you choose to enter it.You; the administrators.
For drivers: keke plate, keke body number, licence numberSo the administrators can approve drivers and so riders can recognise the keke that is coming.Administrators. Riders on a trip see the plate and body number, not the licence number.
For drivers: your phone's location while you are onlineTo match you with nearby riders and show riders where your keke is.The rider you are driving; the administrators' live map. Not shared with anyone else.
Trips: pick-up and drop-off stops, times, fare, how it was paid, your rating and commentTo run the trip, show your history, work out driver earnings, and sort out disputes. The rider, the driver and the administrators.
Wallet: top-ups and payments made from your walletTo keep your balance correct. You; the administrators.
Reports: SOS alerts, complaints, lost-item notes, with the text you write and a locationSo the administrators can respond quickly and look into problems. The administrators.
Technical logs: time, page requested and result for each request to our serverTo keep the service secure and fix faults. These logs do not contain your messages or passwords. The people who run the server.

Your location

Sharing a trip

A rider can choose Share trip to make a link. Anyone who has that link can see the driver's first name, the keke's plate, the route and trip status, and the keke's live position while the trip is going. It does not show your name or phone number. The link contains a long random code; only share it with people you trust. Deleting your account switches your old links off.

Other services that handle some of your data

We do not sell your data, we show no adverts, and the app contains no advertising or analytics tools.

How long we keep things

Deleting your account

You can do this yourself in the app: Menu → Account → Delete my account. If you cannot open the app, see how to ask us to delete it.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. Write to the campus transport office and we will answer as soon as we can.

Security

The app only talks to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Your sign-in is kept in your phone's secure storage (the iPhone Keychain or Android Keystore) and expires after a few days. No system is perfectly safe, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else.

Children

The app is for University of Abuja students, staff and campus keke drivers. It is not meant for children.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change matters to you, for example if we start collecting something new, we will tell you in the app first.
